Bayern Munich’s swoop for promising young German keeper Jonas Urbig looks set to be accomplished soon, per a report from Sport Bild.
The Köln man has starred in the 2. Bundesliga this season and will not come too cheaply — but apparently the Bavarians are ready to spend.
As captured via @iMiaSanMia:
FC Köln internally expect the transfer of Jonas Urbig to Bayern to be completed within the next few days. Urbig will be on the bench against Elversberg on Saturday, in what could be his last game for Köln. Everything points towards a fixed fee of €7-8m that can go up to €10m with add-ons. Urbig has agreed personal terms with Bayern and expressed his desire to leave immediately [@BILD]
BFW Analysis
At close to €10M — perhaps even reaching that mark — this is a big statement of intent from FC Bayern. Pardon the pun.
Daniel Peretz has held down the No. 2 position well in relief of Manuel Neuer this year, and Sven Ulreich is here as well. Peretz does not seem eager to go on loan…but if Bayern is pushing to make sure not to miss out on Urbig, it is a sign that he is seen as more than a No. 2 — but as a potential Neuer successor.
Where does that leave Peretz? Ulreich? Alexander Nübel? We will find out.
