‘See a penny, pick it up!’: Leeds boss Sam Allardyce spots a FIVER on the touch-line and offers it to the fourth official during clash with West Ham… before running back to his technical area and stashing it in his pocket
- Sam Allardyce’s side took on West Ham in a crucial match in their survival fight
- During the first-half, as his side led, he spotted a five pound note on the floor
- He cheekily offered it to the fourth official before putting it away in his pocket
Leeds boss Sam Allardyce cheekily offered the fourth official a five pound note that he found on the touchline during his side’s clash with West Ham.
Allardyce’s side find themselves in a precarious position within the Premier League relegation spots and have had full focus on their fight for survival.
However, for a moment, Allardyce’s focus drifted elsewhere during Leeds’ clash with West Ham after he spotted a five pound note beside his technical area.
A video of the incident has since gone viral on Twitter, after the former England boss was seen laughing away with his assistant manager following the incident.
In the 25th minute of the match, the Leeds boss spotted the bank note lying on the floor and strolled over to it before trying to hand it to the fourth official.

He tried to offer it to the fourth official, as a joke, before returning to his technical area
The official quickly laughed it off and batted Allardyce away, before the Leeds boss hurried back to his technical area and stashed it in his pocket.
It all seemed to be in good faith as Allardyce laughed away with his assistant coach at the incident, once he’d returned to his side of the dugout.
It certainly doesn’t seem as though it belonged to the Leeds manager, given his bemusement when he initially spotted it.
Allardyce’s side had been 1-0 up at that stage after Rodrigo’s opening goal, but were soon pegged back by a neat finish from Declan Rice.
Jarrod Bowen then put the hosts ahead in the second-half with a well taken strike, before Manuel Lanzini’s late strike, that sunk Leeds’ hopes of survival in the league.
As it stands, two teams out of themselves, Leicester and Everton will face the drop this season – with just three points separating them.
They sit behind Everton and, with Leicester having an extra game to play, Allardyce’s side would’ve been hoping to pick up six points from clashes with West Ham and Tottenham, who they face on the final day of the Premier League season.
