Four years ago today West Ham made our worst ever signing when Manuel Pellegrini brought Roberto to the London Stadium.
Roberto joined West Ham on a free transfer in the summer of 2019. He was brought in to deputise for Lukasz Fabianski.

The 37-year-old played 10 games for West Ham, and let in 21 goals, keeping only one clean sheet in the process (Transfermarkt).
The Spaniard left the Hammers in the summer of 2020 to join Spanish outfit Valladolid, and then retired two years later.
He was clearly never a good fit for West Ham, or the Premier League in general, and will undoubtedly go down as one of our worst signings of all-time…
Four years ago today West Ham made our worst ever signing
It seems like yesterday when Pellegrini brought the Spanish goalkeeper to the London Stadium. At the time it didn’t seem like a bad deal.
However, when Lukasz Fabianski suffered an injury during the early stages of the 2019/20 campaign, Roberto filled in for him and was so bad that his performances nearly ended up costing us our place in the Premier League.
He was eventually taken out of the team and replaced by David Martin.
And then when David Moyes took over from Pellegrini, he was farmed out on loan to Alaves in January 2020 before being moved on permanently to Valladolid five months later.
West Ham have made some shocking signings throughout the years. There was Marco Boogers back in the mid-90’s, Nsereko 15 years later and more recently Simeone Zaza.
However, I firmly believe that Roberto takes the biscuit as the Hammers’ worst ever transfer.
In my opinion, four years ago today West Ham made our worst ever signing. There will not be one single Hammer who misses Roberto.
