Chelsea reportedly ‘insist’ on signing Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, and Mauricio Pochettino has offered some players to the Old Lady in return after a ‘face-to-face meeting’.
The Blues have spent ridiculous sums of money since Todd Boehly bought the club. Indeed, in the two transfer windows since then, their overall outlay has been north of £500million.
There’s no suggestion they’ll stop spending big money this summer. Kylian Mbappe reportedly wants to leave Paris Saint-Germain, and he’s emerged as a target.
Another big name, that’s potentially a more viable option, is Juventus’ Vlahovic. The Serbian has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge for some time, and it seems that interest has now been moved on.
Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport states the Blues ‘insist’ on the signing. This comes after a ‘face-to-face meeting’ over the weekend, among Chelsea officials and Juve representatives.
That the Italian outlet might need to sell some saleable assets is clear. Indeed, their financial situation is not the strongest, having been deducted 10 points in Serie A regarding previous transfer dealings.
And there is a suggestion they’d be open to selling Vlahovic. Indeed, the report states they want ‘as close as possible’ to the £66million it was reported they bought the striker for from Fiorentina in January 2022.
However, it’s also suggested there is a likelihood they’d have to accept a chunk less than that. As such, the Blues’ route to the snare might be a somewhat simple one.
New boss Pochettino seemingly has an idea in mind of how he wants to get the transfer done, too. Indeed, it’s stated Chelsea have presented several options to Juventus in terms of players they could take as part of the deal.
The Blues will surely have to see some players depart if they’re to spend big again this summer, with Financial FairPlay regulations looming.
What’s more, Pochettino will have an idea of how he wants his squad to look, and will already have an idea of who he wants to keep and who he doesn’t.
Whether or not Juve are interested in any of the players they’ve been offered remains to be seen. Vlahovic would be a good snare if Chelsea could get it done, though – their top goalscorer last season, Raheem Sterling, scored nine goals. In just 27 games, Vlahovic surpassed that sum.
