Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta is actively looking to leave the club to join Serie A giants Inter, according to reports.
Azpilicueta joined the Blues from French side Marseille for around £7million in 2012.
He has won everything there is to win at Stamford Bridge but is clearly seeking a new challenge.
Barcelona have held an interest in the Spanish defender since the summer of 2021 and seemed pretty close to signing him on a number of occasions.
A recent report claimed ex-Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel is looking to bring Azpilicueta to Bayern Munich, in a move that would spectacularly make Ben Chilwell the club’s third-longest serving player.
And now Champions League finalists Inter are looking to sign the experienced Chelsea star.
Sky Italia reported on Thursday evening that Azpilicueta is on the Italian club’s summer shortlist.
It was relayed by Sky Sports in England that the 33-year-old is ‘trying to get out of his contract to sign a two-year deal with Inter’.
The news was also confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Writing on Twitter, Romano said: ‘Inter have included Cesar Azpilicueta in their list for this summer as talks already took place with Chelsea.
‘He’s concrete option, as per Sky Sport. Could be one more outgoing for Chelsea.’
Romano then added that Azpilicueta is hoping to agree an immediate exit despite his contract expiring next year.
‘Cesar Azpilicueta wants to try a new experience and discussions are ongoing with Chelsea to leave the club despite being under contract until 2024,’ he said.
‘Inter, working on Azpilicueta deal as he wants the move.’
Chelsea are working on several outgoing transfers, with Kalidou Koulibaly, Edouard Mendy and Hakim Ziyech all set to move to Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, Kai Havertz has reportedly agreed a move to Premier League rivals Arsenal.
One player who wants to leave but might not get his wish is Mason Mount, who Manchester United are desperate to sign.
The Old Trafford club sent Chelsea a third offer on Friday, believed to be worth £50m plus £5m in add-ons.
Should Mount fail to get a move to the Red Devils, he is reportedly expected to run out his Blues contract and leave on a free in 2024.
