Enzo Maresca wants Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks at Leicester City
Leicester City could give Harry Winks a way out of Tottenham Hotspur — if the midfielder continues to be sidelined at the club where he has spent the last 21 years of his career.
The English midfielder is a product of Spurs’ youth academy and enjoyed a notably impressive time under Mauricio Pochettino, where he was slowly becoming a regular starter for the club.
He was also handed meaningful playing time by Jose Mourinho but things took a turn for the worse for Winks after Antonio Conte’s arrival at the club. He was allowed to join Sampdoria on loan last summer.
That in itself was a huge sign that Conte didn’t fancy him. You don’t loan out a 26-year-old player who plays in a position your club clearly lacks proper depth in.
Winks to leave Spurs?
He is now 27 and fast approaching the end of his prime years at Spurs. If Ange Postecoglou doesn’t have plans for him, it could be curtains on his time at the club.
According to the Telegraph (Subscription Required), newly-appointed Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca wants to sign Winks. The English midfielder will enter the final year of his contract next month.
It remains to be seen if the player is himself open to moving to the Championship. He has been a key figure for Spurs for many years and spent last season out on loan in Italy.

A move to the second tier of English football would be a big downgrade for him. But he can be guaranteed a key role at club at this level, which could be a necessary step for him before he draws interest from first-division teams.
