James Maddison set for Tottenham Hotspur medical after agreement with Leicester City
Leicester City star James Maddison is set to undergo a medical to complete his move to Tottenham Hotspur in the ongoing transfer window, according to The Athletic (Subscription Required).
Spurs have struck a deal worth more than £40 million to acquire the services of the midfielder from the Foxes. The King Power Stadium side were holding out for more. However, the North London side have managed to bring the England international’s price down.
The 26-year-old is set to enter the final year of his current contract at the East Midlands-based club. Therefore, the aforementioned fee seems like a fair price for him.
Maddison got relegated with Leicester last season. The Foxes are going to play Championship football once again after failing to find consistency in the Premier League in the previous campaign.
However, the English national showcased his talent despite the King Power Stadium side’s struggles. In the 2022/23 term, the playmaker notched 10 goals and nine assists in 30 league appearances.
English top-flight rivals Newcastle United also had the 24-year-old on their radar. The Magpies will be playing Champions League football in the coming months. Still, Tottenham look likely to pip Eddie Howe’s team to the midfielder’s signature.
Tottenham has lacked creativity in the middle of the park for some time now. Antonio Conte often relied on Rodrigo Bentancur to link up with the attack at the North London side.
However, with the Uruguay international’s injury, Spurs had to rely on the likes of Yves Bissouma, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp to contribute up front. However, they are known more for their defensive attributes.

Therefore, Maddison’s potential arrival is evidently a boost for us. Apart from playing in the midfield, the 26-year-old is also capable of playing in the attack. Hopefully, the English national will prove to be a key player for Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham.
