Harry Winks is closing on a move from Tottenham Hotspur to Leicester City
As per the BBC, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks is closing in on a £10m move to Leicester City this summer.
Winks, who spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Serie A side Sampdoria, has fallen down the pecking order at Spurs. His last appearance for the club was on the last day of the 2021/22 season.
The England international had an underwhelming loan spell at Sampdoria, where he only made 20 appearances in the league and was a part of the team that got relegated from Serie A.
He is now set to join a club that also got relegated from a top-flight division last season – Leicester. Tottenham have done recent business with the Foxes when they agreed a deal to sign James Maddison for £40m.
Combining these two deals, it feels as if Spurs have come out of it as a happy bunch. They are basically £30m for Maddison and selling a player who was surplus to requirement last season.
If we look at the midfield options Ange Postecoglou has going into the next season – Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur might be the first-choice central midfield pairing. There is Maddison to operate in that number 10 position or as one of the attacking number eights. Oliver Skipp had a decent last season and would push for a regular place in the team as well.
Moreover, Tanguy Ndombele, who had a decent loan spell at Napoli, might be another option in that department if the Frenchman does not leave the club this summer.
To round this off, at 27, this is probably the right move for Winks. He can get regular game time at Leicester and hope to push them back into the Premier League next season. Spurs get a quality player in Maddison who should do well under Postecoglou.

The focus should now be shifting to signing a world-class centre-back and perhaps a left-back who can replace Ivan Perisic in the long run. In that regard, retaining Sergio Reguilon could also be an option.
