West Ham have reignited their interest in Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez according to Athletic journalist David Ornstein . This news is hot off the press following Arsenal’s confirmation of the Declan Rice transfer.
Rice is believed to currently be at Arsenal, completing media work and photo-shoots ahead of the move. It appears the confirmation of the transfer has given West Ham the confidence to resume their transfer activity.
David Moyes had earlier suggested that the Rice hold-up had delayed the Hammers transfer market activity.
According to Ornstein’s tweet, no offer has been made to Ajax for Alvarez. West Ham were heavilly linked to the player early during this window but the move stalled.
The Mexico international is rumoured to be available for £35 million. Dortmund were understood to be the front runners for the player but have not made a bid. As a result West Ham are understood to have ramped up their interest in the 25 year old.
Alvarez has also interested other Premier League clubs in recently. He nearly moved to Stamford Bridge last season when Chelsea were seemingly hoovering up everyone in sight.
Manchester United are also believed to have shown and interest in the player. How much of the gossip is agent driven is hard to assess. Arsenal were also suggested as a possible destination but that’s proven to be inaccurate.
