Tottenham Hotspur star Hugo Lloris left out of pre-season squad to sort out summer transfer
Tottenham Hotspur custodian Hugo Lloris has been left out of the club’s pre-season tour of Australia and the Far East, a club statement (h/t BBC) has confirmed.
The 36-year-old is in the final year of his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. According to the statement by the club, Lloris was left out of the squad to ‘explore prospective transfer opportunities’.
Long story short, it seems that his race is run in N17. We have already signed 26-year-old Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli this summer.
The Italian goalie is set to be our No. 1 choice between the sticks from next season. It remains to be seen where Lloris heads now.
Lloris to leave Spurs?
He is at the end of his playing days and suffered two lengthy injuries last season. That, and his error-prone performances in recent seasons started to test the fans’ patience.
Make no mistake, Lloris is a bona fide Tottenham legend. But the time had come to find a replacement, and we did.
It would be cruel to keep the two-time FIFA World Cup finalists (winner in 2018) on the bench. It is best for us to let him join a team where his abilities are respected and where he can play on a more regular basis — perhaps in a less competitive environment.
Moreover, it could give us a chance to rake in some fees for him before his contract runs out. Lloris will depart as a Tottenham legend, no matter which club he joins.

He has earned the right to decide his next destination and the club must respect his wishes. In his absence, it seems Fraser Forster will continue being the club’s No. 2.
