West Ham did not include a sell-on clause for Declan Rice deciding to push Arsenal on payment terms and add-on triggers instead.
The Hammers agreed to a £100m transfer fee for Rice and £5m of add-ons, but initially, Arsenal wanted to pay this in five equal payments of £20m over four years, and the add-ons triggers.
These were next door to impossible and it is understood included such adventures as Champions League wins and regular Premier League title winners.
West Ham managed to reduce the payment terms to three equal payments of £33.3m over two years and semi-tough add-ons which are more realistic.
The Hammers conceded on a sell-on clause deciding that profit on a £105m fee was unlikely and also that Rice will would probably remain at Arsenal for between 5 and 8 years.
A club insider per 6foot2 said “There is no sell clause. We don’t think he will ever be sold for more and we imagine he’ll spend the next 5/8 years at Arsenal.”
