Speculation that the Hammers could bring the Mexican to the London Stadium was rife when Declan Rice was on the verge of joining Arsenal.
But, as fans know only too well, nothing has come of that to date with West Ham yet to sign a single player thus far.

West Ham fans are too long in the tooth to get carried away until they see the 25-year-old holding up that claret and blue shirt.
And they are right to be cautious it seems.

But he has revealed Ajax are also currently in talks with Borussia Dortmund and other clubs.
And that could be a real problem given the Hammers are yet to agree a fee with the Dutch club, who beat them to Carlos Borges Forbs this week.
“West Ham are hoping they can conclude a deal for the Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez,” Whetstone said.
“They have provisionally agreed personal terms with agent but have yet to agree a final transfer fee with Ajax.
“West Ham are in talks with Ajax who are also in talks with other clubs including Borussia Dortmund.”
With other clubs in the mix and West Ham’s dismal transfer conversion rate this window, there should be no counting of chickens just yet.
Especially given Dortmund have over £115m in the bank to try and replace Jude Bellingham after his move to Real Madrid.
Just under two weeks ago it was reported ‘a deal was there to be done’ for West Ham to sign Alvarez.
The defensive midfield specialist helped Mexico win the Gold Cup last month.
