Newcastle United are keen on Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier
Premier League rivals Newcastle United are keen on signing Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur in the ongoing transfer window, according to Fichajes via Football365.
The Magpies are looking to acquire the services of the England international this summer. Eddie Howe’s team ‘like’ the centre-back and are leading the race to get a hold of his signature.
However, the Tyneside outfit are not the only team eyeing the 29-year-old. The former Sporting CP star is attracting interest from various other teams due to his versatility.
Newcastle have been flying high under Howe since last season. In the previous campaign, with Fabian Schar and Sven Botman in their backline, the Magpies secured a place in the top four in the Premier League.
As a result, the Tyneside outfit are set to play in the Champions League in the current campaign. Dier has vast experience of playing in the prestigious European competition for Tottenham over the years.
Spurs signed the English national in the summer of 2014 and he has since been a key player for us. However, the arrival of Ange Postecoglou has seen the defender fall down the pecking order.
Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven seem to be the Australian manager’s preferred options in the backline. The duo have started together in the first three league matches for the North London side and have done well.
Davinson Sanchez also looks to have made a place for himself in the gaffer’s plans. The Colombian has made a few substitute appearances and started in our defeat against Fulham in the second round of the Carabao Cup on 29 August.

Therefore, Dier’s time at Spurs is arguably coming to an end. However, will Newcastle be the ones to take the English national away from the Lilywhites in the final hours of the transfer window? Only time will tell.
