Manchester City are “long-term admirers” of Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies and are “keen” on taking him to the Etihad, according to HITC Football.
The website claims that both the Cityzens and Chelsea are keeping close tabs on the Canadian international’s situation.
Davies is closing in on the final year of his contract at the Allianz Arena and Bayern will have to make a decision on his future in the coming months.
They have reportedly slapped a €60m (£51m) asking price on the 23-year-old, but they may well be forced into lowering that valuation soon if he does not put pen to paper on a new deal.
City are not the favourites to sign the defender
While both City and Chelsea are interested in recruiting Davies, it is believed that the player’s preferred destination is Real Madrid.
The La Liga champions have been courting the fullback for quite some time, but there are doubts over whether they are willing to pay the required fee for him.
It has been reported that Real may only offer up to €30m (£25.5m), which is an amount that is unlikely to persuade Bayern into selling up.
Could Davies end up at the Etihad?
A lot will depend on whether the Canadian is wedded to the idea of making a move to Spain. Due to his contract situation, he could well hold out until next year to join Real on a free transfer.
However, if Davies is open to moving to another team this summer then City could swoop in. Pep Guardiola’s team may not be willing to match Bayern’s asking price but they would probably still get closer to the German club’s demands than Real.
For now, the Cityzens will need to play the waiting game and see how negotiations with Bayern and Real play out.
