Manchester City are set to beat Arsenal and other Premier League clubs to the signature of England Under 16 captain Harrison Miles, according to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein.
The trusted journalist claims that the Premier League champions are “advancing” on the deal, with the teenager expected to sign a long-term contract.
Miles is currently a free agent, having left Southampton at the end of last season. Despite his departure from the Saints, teams have been vying to snap up the 16-year-old who is described as a “promising midfielder” by Ornstein.
Despite his young age, he has already made appearances for the Saints at Under 21 level, playing twice in Premier League 2 during the 2023/24 campaign, starting games against Tottenham and Arsenal at the start of this year.
In addition to those runouts, Miles was a regular starter for the Under 18s, playing 14 matches in the U18 Premier League and making 1 appearance in the FA Youth Cup.
City have been busy recruiting youngsters this summer
Miles is just one of two England youth internationals that the Cityzens are set to sign. It was reported by multiple sources at the weekend that Pep Guardiola’s side have beaten Liverpool to the signature of Chelsea’s Ryan McAidoo.
The 16-year-old is set to join the Manchester club’s development squad for the start of next season, with many expecting the midfielder to go on to do great things.
Are City planning to sign any players for the first team?
At the moment, everything is quiet on the transfer front for the senior squad. There may be some more movement after the European Championships and Copa America but it is likely to be a rather uneventful summer at the Etihad.
Signings could be brought in if the likes of Matheus Nunes, Ederson, Julian Alvarez or Sergio Gomez are sold but no purchases are imminent.
