Transfer rumors are sources of excitement for most football fans, and depending on the transfer, sources of grief for others. The rumors around Alphonso Davies has just been..painful.
For a very long time now, Davies has been subject to multiple rumors of him signing for Real Madrid and of Bayern Munich no longer wanting him. Each time the club is asked about the Canadian defenders situation, they somehow manage to further postpone the actual news. In the most recent interview with Christoph Freund, Bayern’s sporting director, he was once again asked whether or not Davies will stay. The response, which was captured by @iMiaSanMia, was just as you’d expect it:
“He’s played a very good Copa América with Canada and only lost out on the third place on penalties. He’s now on vacation. Talks have taken place but have not yet led to an agreement.”
Now you would think that’s bad enough, he led with complements, and then gave us a not-very-hopeful insight on his future. But it gets worse:
“The door is certainly not closed. The most important thing is that he finds his form after his vacation. We’ll see what the next few months will bring”
So the only thing that actually came out of this interview, was more smoke and mirrors. Shock.
Either way, one thing that Freund said is true – he needs to find his form. While he had a great run during the Copa América, his best is still yet to come out, and that’s the form Bayern needs to be convinced.
