Bayern Munich claim their second win of the Bundesliga season with a gritty 2-0 win over SC Freiburg; Harry Kane’s penalty and Thomas Müller’s goal as the outright record appearance holder for the Bavarians was enough—including a late missed penalty for Freiburg—to get the three points and soar to second behind surprise leaders Heidenheim.
Speaking after the match, Vincent Kompany said that the team started off well but lost the pace in the second half.
“We had very good positioning in the first half and played the way we wanted. In the second half you could see that we still need rhythm. Every game we win is a step forward,” Kompany said in post-match remarks captured by @iMiaSanMia.
The day featured Thomas Müller once again, playing in his 710th match for Bayern, a club record, and scoring yet another goal to seal the deal for the Bavarians.
“Incredible. I was there for his first game on this pitch when I was at HSV,” Kompany added. “It’s unbelievable. 710 games where he gave 100%, in training as well. That makes him special. There are still many games for him to play.”
