Rudi Völler has overseen quite a transformation of the German national football team in the last two years. After falling out yet again in the group stage at the World Cup, it was time to move on from former Bayern Munich coach Hansi Flick. Since then, the team has been revitalized under Julian Nagelsmann. The only issue now is that Nagelsmann is only extended until the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and Nagelsmann was only originally signed until 2024. Will Nagelsmann extend again?
It is clear that at the moment, Völler and the DFB are keen to have Nagelsmann stay as long as he would like. International managers that are both great coaches and want to stay for long periods of time, don’t come often. If Nagelsmann continues the trajectory of success, it seems as though all parties would be happy to keep him.
“Julian now has a reputation in Germany and across Europe for coaching top clubs. He earned that at a young age. And he will decide for himself what’s best for him. Whether he wants to remain national team coach beyond the World Cup – or whether he wants to coach a top club again. Klopp? I don’t even know what Jürgen wants to do. But if Julian Nagelsmann were to decide at some point that he would rather coach a top club in Europe or Germany again – of course, there’s no way around Jürgen Klopp if he wants to,” Nagelsmann told ZDF (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Alternatively, it seems as though the DFB would welcome Klopp as the new manager with open arms. Once Jürgen Klopp has taken some time away to rest, it is certainly an intriguing option for all parties.
