When Bayern Munich’s lineup dropped there was a major surprised (no Jamal Musiala!) and a somewhat expected exclusion (no João Palhinha), so naturally there were questions.
Kompany said Musiala’s benching was all about workload management.
“We have to look at the workload a little bit. The game against Leverkusen cost a lot of energy. If we have the feeling that someone is not fresh, then we have the squad for that. Jamal has not felt so fit in the past two days. He can still come off the bench,” the coach told DAZN (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
When it comes to João Palhinha, though, Kompany did not want to delve into the specifics of what the Portuguese midfielder was once again left on the bench.
“It’s about the guys who will play. I always only talk about the team, I want to keep that. I want to break with the tradition of talking about the players who don’t play. He will still play a key role in the season,” Kompany said.
