Filip Jorgensen has heaped praise on team-mate Nicolas Jackson and believes he’s improved a lot since joining the club last summer.
Jackson and Jorgensen spent a year together at Spanish side Villarreal with the Senegal international making the £32m switch to Stamford Bridge last summer.
The 23-year-old impressed in his debut season with the Blues and scored 17 goals in all competitions, with 14 of those coming in the Premier League.
Jorgensen praises Jackson
Jackson’s good debut campaign saw him rewarded with a two year contract extension until 2033 and he’s made an impressive start to the season with four goals and three assists in the first six league games.
The striker’s start to life in England will have been a surprise to many who didn’t know an awful lot about him, but to Jorgensen it wasn’t.
The Dane spent a year with Jackson at Villarreal and then followed in his footsteps this summer by making the switch from the Spanish side to Stamford Bridge.
Speaking in the match day programme ahead of Thursday night’s game in the Conference League against Gent, Jorgensen stated everyone at Villarreal knew Jackson had big potential.
“We all knew the big, big potential he [Jackson] had, and when he gained some confidence and got to play a bit more, he showed everyone what he was capable of,” he told Chelsea’s website.
“Now at Chelsea he’s more mature. He’s the same guy but he’s maybe got better at all the good qualities he had, and just exploded more. He loves to score goals.”
Jackson will likely be on the bench for the game against Gent, but for Jorgensen it will be another opportunity to show Enzo Maresca what he’s capable of.
The 22-year-old is currently second choice to Robert Sanchez and his action has been limited to the cup competitions so far, but it’s early days in his Chelsea career and he will be looking to become the number one as soon as possible.
