Apparently there was more than meets the eye with Bayern Munich starting Jamal Musiala on the bench during the team’s 1-0 loss to Aston Villa in the Champions League.
According to Sport Bild’s Christian Falk and Michel Schröer (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Musiala is battling a hip injury, which could affect his status against Eintracht Frankfurt this weekend:
Jamal Musiala had a hip problem against Leverkusen and Bayern were concerned he would aggravate his injury had he started against Aston Villa last night – especially with Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Barcelona and Germany games coming up. Musiala is receiving intensive treatment to get fit for Sunday’s game against Frankfurt.
For what it is worth, Musiala’s hip looked fine vs. Aston Villa. However, Bayern Munich does not want this to become a lingering issue that could nag Musiala all season. If he is not 100%, it would not be shocking to see Musiala sit out. If he is good enough to go, though, his presence will be welcomed against a tough Eintracht Frankfurt side.
