Germany’s new No. 1 keeper, Marc-André ter Stegen, recently picked up a serious injury. The ACL tear has ruled him out for the coming months, meaning Germany seriously needs a new goalkeeper.
The DFB squad lost two of its best (debatable) keepers in very quick succession, Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer to retirement, and Ter Stegen to injury. So, obviously, the question arises – who will be between the sticks for Germany?
Joshua Kimmich was recently asked about who he would want to replace the FC Barcelona keeper and is not sure how things will shake out.
“It’s very difficult to judge that now. I’ll be completely honest. I don’t know enough about the goalkeeping position. I can’t judge it well enough. Of course, we’ll miss Marc a lot,” said the Bayern midfielder/German right-back (captured by @iMiaSanMia).
So, it looks like the squad is just as clueless as the rest of the fans, and it is not clear as to who the best replacement could be. Fans have differing opinions too, but the common consensus is that Ter Stegen would not have been an adequate replacement for Neuer anyway.
