Rumors have been swirling around Bayern Munich’s inevitable move for Florian Wirtz and the potential repercussions this could have. One of those potential repercussions is Paul Wanner, currently on loan FC Heidenheim, being used as a makeweight to bring Wirtz to Munich. Inevitably, this persistent rumor saw Bayer Leverkusen’s Managing Director of Sport Simon Rolfes asked about the former FV 1893 Ravensburg youth player. Rolfes had little to say about Wanner, though:
“He is a very talented player, which is evident from the fact that different nations are competing for him,” Rolfes said, as captured by Florian Plettenberg. “Otherwise, I prefer not to comment on players from other clubs.”
That is a statement that makes it very difficult to get a reading on the club’s interest in one of the Bundesliga’s current breakout stars. It is still a long time until the 2025 transfer window and Wanner’s loan ends, so do not expect any significant change in Wanner’s status anytime soon.
