It’s another Pokal matchday! Specifically, it’s the DFB Pokal matchday 2, which might as well be the Champions League final as far as Bayern Munich are concerned.
In the last five seasons, Bayern Munich have been knocked out of the Pokal in the 2nd round thrice. The only exceptions were in 19/20 (where they won the trophy) and 22/23 (where Tuchel lost in the 3rd round). The competition has often been treated as an afterthought, which is reflected in the results. Poor Harry Kane has never started even started a Pokal game yet — this might be his first chance.
After what happened last week, Vincent Kompany cannot afford to take it easy at all. Expect zero rotation, all guns blazing, a full-power lineup.
It’s Bayern time.
