Another statement win from Bayern Munich to re-steady the ship under Vincent Kompany, this time in the DFB-Pokal. If Bayern’s stars can continue to shine, this season may be optimistic once again.
Jersey Swap: Mainz fans
Despite a 4-0 lead at half-time, most of the Mainz fans stayed for the entire time and stayed long after chanting on their team. Flags flying and chants loud for a full ninety minutes when there wasn’t much to cheer.
Der Kaiser: Alphonso Davies
Davies impressed early with a great run and setup with the first goal, which was dispatched by Jamal Musiala. The Canadian international even went on to provide a second assist later in the first half, this time for Leroy Sané. Bayern fans will be glad to see him contributing offensively once again.
Fußballgott: Jõao Palhinha
Palhinha had another great game. Ball distribution was excellent and the destroyer had a well-rounded game. He has certainly stepped up to the plate since Aleksandar Pavlović’s injury. Now consistency is the target for the Portuguese midfielder.
Der Bomber: Leroy Sané
There weren’t a heap of options here, since so many attackers were subbed off early. There was another forward, but he is destined for a greater award. Sané proved he can be a real contributor for Bayern in his first start under Kompany. Could we see him start again soon? Or will he be sold in the winter transfer window?
Meister of the Match: Jamal Musiala
Musiala has reached the next level in terms of quality this season. After a stellar tournament at EURO 2024, the German wonderkid has followed it up with great matches for Bayern. Musiala’s best quality is his dribbling, but his shooting continues to improve. He had a great finish for his first, a header for the second, and even added a third to collect his hat-trick before half-time.
