Max Eberl could use a break from the heat.
Less than two weeks ago, in the wake of an ugly defeat to FC Barcelona, the Bayern Munich executive board member for sport was facing sharp questions about his side’s defensive displays — and snapping back at his post-game press conference.
Now, with Bayern’s third clean sheet in a row in hand — via an impressive 3-0 win over a Union Berlin side that entered the matchday fourth in the Bundesliga table — Eberl was relaxed.
“We have now won three games to nil in the league and in the cup, very, very consistently,” Eberl is quoted as saying in his post-match comments on FCBayern.com. “I heard that Bayern have played three games in a row to nil for the first time since 2020. Despite this, we have not lost our goal threat, although we certainly did not set off fireworks today, it was still relatively difficult up until the penalty. Union were strong runners, defended actively and played very well. Then came the penalty. That was a bit like a chest release. In the second half, we played like a top team, scored another goal, didn’t let anything burn and were very stable. Accordingly, it was good preparation for the game on Wednesday in the Champions League.”
Calm, collected, and looking ahead to SL Benfica. It’s a good position for the Bavarians to be in.
