Last season, Bayern Munich loaned Josip Stanišić to Bayer Leverkusen. In 38 appearances, Stanišić was crucial in Leverkusen’s historical run to an undefeated Bundesliga season, the DFB-Pokal trophy, and the Europa League final.
Stanišić returned to Bayern this summer and lay his claim to the starting job at right back. Unfortunately, he only played in the DFB-Pokal Round of 64 victory over Ulm before injuring his knee in training back in August.
“Josip Stanišić is continuing to work on his comeback after suffering a lateral ligament tear in his right knee,” reported Florian Plettenberg (via @SkySportDE). “The healing process is progressing positively and as planned. However, no risks will be taken by having him return too early. His return to team training is planned for mid-December. By January 2025, for the second half of the season 24 y/o right-back aims to be fully fit.”
Bayern has been overly cautious this campaign in reintegrating key players from injury, including Leroy Sané and Hiroki Itō. After a couple months recovering from his surgery, Stanišić is running on his own and should be 100% for the Rückrunde.
