Arsenal are still searching for a permanent replacement for sporting director Edu Gaspar, but Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro is reportedly out of the race.
Gianluca Di Marzio reported last week that Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro was one of the people under consideration to replace Edu Gaspar at Arsenal. Di Marzio claimed Arsenal were monitoring the Brazilian ahead of a potential move.
Yet that interest doesn’t seem to have lasted very long. L’Equipe (via GFFN) report that though Arsenal considered Scuro, the CEO is entirely focused on Monaco and is no longer in contention for a role with the Gunners.
Arsenal will now turn to other potential targets, reportedly including the likes of PSG’s Luis Campos, Bayer Leverkusen’s Simon Rolfes, and Real Sociedad’s Roberto Olabe.
Sky Sports News reported at the weekend that Campos is a strong target for Arsenal, with his contract running out in the summer.
That report added that Arsenal’s search for an Edu replacement is at an early stage, with the club still figuring out exactly what kind of sporting director they’ll look to hire.
As for Olabe, Noticias de Gipuzkoa report that Arsenal are indeed “very interested” in acquiring Real Sociedad’s director of football.
Noticias claim Olabe initially intended to take a break and enjoy more time with his family at the end of the season, but he’s “very happy” with Arsenal’s proposal.
Edu is serving six-months’ notice, Jason Ayto is filling in on an interim basis, and Campos and Olabe aren’t available until next June anyway – even assuming Campos doesn’t extend his PSG deal.
Expect this process to rumble on for a few more months before we get any kind of resolution.
