Former Tottenham player Andros Townsend has revealed what he really liked about Enzo Maresca and his team set-up on Sunday.
The Blues made it four league wins in a row as they came from 2-0 down to beat Spurs 4-3 and move four points behind leaders Liverpool.
Chelsea are now outright second in the league, two points clear of Arsenal in third and four clear of Manchester City in fourth, whilst they are also the top scorers in the league with 35 goals.
Townsend shares what he really liked about Maresca and his team selection
Having made seven changes in the win against Southampton last week, Maresca reverted back to what he felt was his strongest team.
He started the same team which beat Aston Villa, apart from Benoit Badiashile coming in to replace the injured Wesley Fofana.
That meant Moises Caicedo played the inverted right back role with Romeo Lavia in midfield, and Townsend has stated how he really likes the way Maresca is getting his best players in the team.
“I really like, especially on Sunday, the way he [Maresca] was able to get his best players in the team,” he told BBC Sport as cited on X.com.
“I remember being on the last time and speaking with the Chelsea fan Felix, and wondering how they were going to work a way to get Enzo in the team. And then on Sunday, playing Caicedo as a right back out of possession.
“But in possession, he comes in as a double pivot with Lavia, and then you’ve got Enzo left pocket and Palmer right pocket. It was just too overwhelming for Spurs.
“I know Spurs were 2-1 up going into half time, but some of the combinations into the midfield to get those guys in the pockets to turn and attack the defence was a joy to watch.”
Maresca made a switch at half time with Gusto replacing Lavia and Caicedo moving into midfield which really helped the Blues as they scored three goals to win the match, and will be looking to make it five wins in a row against Brrentford.
