Harvey Barnes was in the Newcastle starting line-up vs. Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final. He missed out on Leicester’s FA Cup final four years ago. This experience must be great for him. Finally achieve and be part of such a special appearance.
Barnes (27) joined Newcastle from Leicester in the summer of 2023 for a fee of £38million. This is a great example of a local player achieving success. It shows how Leicester can create fantastic revenue bringing forward home grown talent.
Missing Wembley four years ago, being out injured was no fun. The former Leicester winger then got the opportunity to play in a final at Wembley. This opportunity must have been fantastic for him. Since leaving it has not been the easiest ride for Barnes. He has mostly been given chances from the bench. His stats are very impressive with 10 goals in 53 outings so far for The Magpies.
Yesterday he was handed a starting position. He had an impressive game, being on the field for 81 minutes. He was on the field when both of the Newcastle goals were scored. Burn scoring in the 45th minute, Isak adding the other in the 52nd.

Newcastle fans have been waiting a very long time for a new major trophy. Their last major win was in 1969. They defeated Ujpesti Dozsa 6-2 (3-0) (2-3) over two games in the Inter City Fairs Cup. Later to be the more known UEFA Cup. Back then another former Leicester winger was on show. Jackie Sinclair was the player, being signed from Leicester in the summer of 1968. He played in both games, being part of this very special affair.
Sinclair had during his days at Leicester, earned himself international recognition, being capped once in a game for Scotland vs. Portugal. For the records, Harvey Barnes is a one cap wonder for England. Sinclair had his best days at Leicester. He played for the club from 1965 to 1968. During this time, he scored 50 goals in 103 league games. He left Newcastle a few weeks after this cup triumph to join Sheffield Wednesday. He started his career at Dunfirmline, moving back there in 1973. He also represented Stenhousemuir and Chesterfield. Sinclair died in 2010, at the age of 67.
Newcastle played a brilliant game yesterday, showing Liverpool are not unbeatable. This should of course give other teams a chance and belief they can go out there to compete. Great to see Harvey Barnes involved and adding another winners medal to his list of merits.
70 years since Newcastle’s last winning a domestic trophy. No Leicester relations in The Magpies FA Cup final winning team that day. Don Revie played the final for the oppostion, Man City. The game ending in a 3-1 to Newcastle.
