Another report concerning West Ham’s need to raise cash in the summer? No. But I did have to read this one twice!
And then I got thinking – who would be most likely to splash the cash in the summer – newly promoted Premier League clubs have literally millions to spend on player acquisitions and few short term PSR worries as they do their damnedest to stay in the Premier league.
So says the report linking Leeds United – Premier League hopefuls sitting atop the Championship just now – suggesting they are casting covetous eyes on West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus if they get promoted back to the Premier League according to former Hammer Martin Allen writing in Leeds news site motleedsnews.com. I’ve added the link so that you can check it isn’t an early April fools’ piece.
What is certain is that – if Leeds do get promoted back to the Premier League whether by finishing 1st or 2nd – or by the playoffs – they will be out looking to bolster their squad with millions to spend.
The article “Leeds tipped to sign Mohammed Kudus in shock West Ham transfer claim” is not perhaps as left-field as it seems. With Kudus’ dip in form, Allen suggests a more modest figure than Kudus’ £85 million release clause would suffice as West Ham need to rebuild this summer. Suggesting that :
“Leeds could announce promotion with Kudus signing”, the ex-Hammer turned journo continues:
“When the Whites got promoted in 2020, the signing of Raphinha was a statement and the Brazilian went on to be superb in Yorkshire. The same effect could be had with Kudus who could be available on a cheapened deal in the summer after a poor year in the Premier League. With just three goals and one assist in 24 appearances, there is good reason why the Irons could look to part ways with the Ghanaian.”
However, Leeds paid just £16 million for Raphina, I’m not sure that equates to approaching £70+ million for Kudus’ signature. Which is probably what it would take.
However, this is football. Nothing is impossible.
