Probably the best value £8 million signing West Ham have ever made. That would, I think, be universally accepted as when West Ham went into the transfer market back in 2018 for former Arsenal goalkeeper Lucas Fabianski, few perhaps realised that he’d still be competing for first team selection seven years later at the age of forty in April.
But Irons’ Polish shot stopper Fabianski may be about to depart the London Stadium at the end of the season: His Hammers contract is unlikely to be renewed and ‘Fab’ is understood to be considering a return to Poland.
Home calling for Fabianski
According to sportwitness.co.uk Fabianski, it is claimed by Polish Journalist Sebastian Staszewski, is ‘tempted’ by the prospect of a return to former club Legia Warsaw where his career took off –twenty years ago:
“These claims from England have left Legia Warsaw’s fans excited about the possibility of him leaving West Ham after this season. Fabiański spent two years with the Polish club between 2005 and 2007 and won the title with them during the 2005/06 season.”
Said journalist claims ‘Fab’ would be good for another two or three seasons – according to sport witness the “the finances won’t be an ‘important factor’ for the transfer to take shape”.
True enough, if Fabianski’s contract expires, he’ll be a free agent and it’ll simply be down to the player to agree personal terms with his new club. It will be poingnant to see Fabianski leave but important for West Ham to build for the future instead of offering another elder statesman a further years extension to a contact.
Time to shake hands and say thanks, and goodbye.
