Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall has been a standout player for the club this season
Tottenham Hotspur starlet Lucas Bergvall has been one of the few positives this season for Spurs. The North London club is enduring a tough season and is in the bottom half of the Premier League table. This has put pressure on manager Ange Postecoglou as well and there are calls for his sacking for the fans.
The Australian manager has made a few debatable calls this season and can be blamed for a lot of things that have gone wrong for Spurs this season, but he cannot be blamed for the introduction of Bergvall in the first-team setup. The 19-year-old has looked way ahead of his age while playing Tottenham this season. Bergvall has played in different positions as well due to the injury crisis at the club.
As per Sofascore, the Spurs No.15 has played 38 games in all competitions for Ange, completed 23 key passes and created five big chances this season. This is quite impressive for a player who is playing his first season in the toughest league in the world. Bergvall has quickly become a fan favourite at the club after joining the club from Djurgarden last summer.
Former Tottenham player Erik Edman talks about Bergvall
Former Tottenham Hotspur player Erik Edman has been praising Lucas Bergvall’s performances and impact at the N17. Bergvall has become a mainstay in the heart of the midfield for Spurs and is one of the only few positives for Ange Postecoglou this season.
Speaking to the Tottenham Hotspur website, Edman said,
“If I look back 30 years, there is one player who has gone from the Swedish league straight into the Premier League and made an impact, and that’s Freddie Ljungberg. Normally speaking, every Swedish player needs to take another step, maybe going to the Championship, maybe another league in another country, to get used to the bigger stage, a higher tempo, all those types of things, but Lucas has adapted phenomenally well.”
The ex-Spurs player added,
“Lucas reminds me a little of a young Michael Carrick, who I played with that season at Spurs in 2004/05. What a player, played off both feet, never lost the ball, always evaded pressure. Lucas is an intelligent footballer. He’s adapted from Sweden to the Premier League, absorbed all the information, and that’s the sign of a talented player, technically and mentally.”
No one expected Lucas Bergvall to get as much game time as he has received this season for Tottenham Hotspur. The Sweden international is already receiving high praise for his performances this season. Earlier last week, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola also described the 19-year-old as “unstoppable” and this just shows how good the starlet has been for the Lilywhites.
