Manuel Neuer continues to take big steps in his recovery from a serious leg injury. The German goalkeeper has started training on the pitch at Sabner Strasse. Bayern Munich expects him to be fit for the pre-season training in July. Neuer should be part of the squad for the pre-season tour of Asia.
Neuer is likely to be the first-choice goalkeeper for Bayern under Thomas Tuchel next season. The return of Neuer to full fitness during pre-season brings down curtains on Alexander Nubel’s time at Bayern. It does look like the Bavarian club has also decided to part ways with the former Schalke goalkeeper in the summer.
According to Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg, Bayern is ready to listen to offers for Alexander Nubel in the summer. The record Bundesliga champions are looking for offers of around €15-20 million for the German goalkeeper. Die Roten is yet to receive concrete offers for Nubel.
Alexander Nubel arrived at Bayern in 2020 from Schalke on a free transfer. Bayern had beaten competition from big European clubs to sign Nubel. He was reduced to the number two role during his debut season at Bayern. Since Neuer showed no signs of decline, Nubel managed to get only a handful of opportunities in his first season.
After warming the bench during his debut season at Bayern, Alexander Nubel decided to go out on loan to get regular playing time. He decided to sign a two-year loan deal with Monaco. The 26-year-old goalkeeper has managed to play regularly for the French club in the last two seasons.
Nubel consistently insisted that he would not stay at Bayern if he was not playing regularly. Bayern tried to recall him from Monaco after Neuer was ruled out for the rest of the season. Nubel was not keen on making a return as he wanted to complete the season with Monaco. The French club also didn’t want to lose Nubel midway through the campaign.

Bayern eventually decided to sign Yann Sommer from Borussia Monchengladbach. The Swiss goalkeeper has been a hit-and-miss for Bayern in the last four months. He does have an agreement with Die Roten to leave in the summer if he is not going to play regularly next season. However, Bayern and Sommer are yet to make a final decision on his future in Bavaria.
With Nubel leaving in the summer, Bayern will have to look for a new young goalkeeper by the end of the next season that can eventually be Neuer’s successor. As things stand, Neuer and Sven Ulreich are likely to be senior goalkeepers at Bayern for next season.
