Mason Mount sees Man United as his preferred transfer destination this summer.
Manchester United need a big summer transfer window, in order to keep closing the gap on the sides above them in the table.
Tonight, Chelsea visit Old Trafford. The Red Devils not only have the chance to secure their Champions League fate, they also will get a closer look at one player they’re interested in signing…
Mason Mount was linked with a United transfer just yesterday. It seems there’s real truth to the rumour, with several top sources picking up on the story over the last 24 hours.
The latest in the story comes from The Athletic. They share some details on Mount’s side of proceedings.
Apparently, the 24-year-old midfielder is ‘leaning towards’ a United transfer this summer, with other interested parties aware of Mount’s Red Devils preference.
Talks between United and Chelsea are expected in ‘due course’.
The Englishman’s future at Chelsea remains uncertain, with Mount’s contract set to expire next summer.
This transfer is going to be far from easy, with a number of ‘hurdles’ still to be cleared. United and Chelsea would need to reach an agreement, which is not going to be easy.
A fee of £55m is apparently what United are prepared to pay, though Chelsea want closer to £85m to let their attacking midfielder leave.
In a window where United’s club ownership remains up in the air, I’m not sure the Reds will spend a large chunk of their budget on Mount – particularly when a new striker simply has to be the top priority.
There’s plenty of time between now and the window officially opening, so we should fully expect this saga to rumble on for a while yet.
