Harry Maguire is set to leave Man United this summer.
Manchester United Football Club are trending in a positive direction under Erik ten Hag.
The gaffer is conducting some great work at Old Trafford, though his job has only just begun…
This summer is arguably the most important in the club’s recent history. Get it right and we could well be back amongst it.
Although signings are needed, players must also have to leave. The Daily Mail have a story detailing a summer overhaul that could involve as many as ten players leaving; including Harry Maguire.
According to Chris Wheeler, the 30-year-old United star is ‘set to leave’ the club, headlining the player exits away from the Theatre of Dreams this summer.
Although that’s the only information we have on a potential Maguire exit, it is huge news.
The Englishman has fallen out of favour this season, with Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane enjoying most of the starts at the heart of defence. Even Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw have jumped ahead of Maguire in the centre-back pecking order.
Don’t forget that Maguire remains club captain. It’s somewhat embarrassing for the man who wears the armband to hardly be playing. Perhaps selling him is less drama than stripping him of the captaincy.
In terms of potential buying clubs, you’d imagine he’d look to stay in the Premier League. Somewhere like Aston Villa or West Ham would be a good career move for Maguire – though United will be looking to make as much of the £80m back from the sale.
As things stand, it does feel like a move away is in everyone’s best interests. Hopefully, it happens early on in the summer so United have plenty of time to reinvest that money into the squad.
