Erik ten Hag has provided a positive Lisandro Martinez injury update.
As this season has progressed, Manchester United have been dealing with more and more injuries. It’s natural, given the fact that this squad has played so many games this term. That situation was not helped by a mid-season World Cup.
Perhaps the most heartbreaking injury was Lisandro Martinez. The Argentine has had a simply sublime debut season here at Old Trafford. The fact it was cut short with serious injury was pretty tough to take.
Not only was Licha’s season over, I also felt like his pre-season would be disrupted due to the severity of the problem. However, United have been given a boost on that front.
According to the gaffer, the key player ‘will be ready’ for the start of pre-season. Ten Hag is expecting Martinez back at the club in the ‘coming days’, which definitely sounds positive.
“I am expecting Lisandro Martinez back at the club in the coming days. He will be ready for the start of pre-season.” Ten Hag told Viaplay, per the Manchester Evening News.
Not only is Martinez a fantastic player, he’s added a winning attitude to the squad. The Argentine became used to winning trophies at Ajax and he seems intent on carrying over that mantra to United.
After a rocky start, the centre-back has really come into his own, proving himself as one of the best defenders in the country. United haven’t been anywhere near as good without ‘The Butcher’, though the fact that this injury wasn’t as serious as first feared is absolutely massive.
I still think there’s a genuine chance that United bring in another new central defender this summer, with Kim Min-jae seemingly the talk of the town. I actually think it’d be Raphael Varane’s place that comes into question, assuming Licha can fully recover and get back to his best.
