Manchester United ended the Premier League season on a high, winning our third consecutive game, beating Fulham 2-1 at Old Trafford.
However, it could have been a very different day for United had David de Gea not saved a penalty in the 26th minute which would have seen us go 2-0 down.
Aleksandar Mitrovic won’t have happy memories of Old Trafford this season, with his last appearance seeing him get sent off in the FA Cup with United coming from 1-0 down to win 3-1 with three goals in the final 15 minutes.
On Sunday, De Gea saved Mitrovic’s penalty and less than 15 minutes later Jadon Sancho equalised. After the game, Erik ten Hag spoke about what a crucial save this was.
I think it shows even at that age, you can progress. It was a great save. A real step up in his performance and I think that it’s similar for our team during the season, good is not good enough and you have to do better.
It was a great save in the right moment in the game because, 2-0 down, then it’s going to be difficult to win the game. From there on, we turned the game, and we win the game, so yeah, I’m happy with the performance from today from my team.
I think after the save of David, it was the turning point and I think we woke up, so a very good wake-up from David, a great save.
