Casemiro has been named in the 2022/23 BBC Team of the Season, after his stunning individual campaign.
Manchester United Football Club ended their season in good form, winning three games to secure their third place finish.
Erik ten Hag will no doubt be happy with how things went, though he’ll have one eye on continuing the United progression, hoping to make this side genuine title contenders in 2023/24.
Before that, there’s some time for positive reflection. The campaign was a successful one for the Old Trafford club – even before the FA Cup final.
There can be no doubt that Ten Hag’s signings played a big part in that, with Casemiro feeling like the standout – for me at least.
For his performances, the United star is the sole Red Devil to be named in BBC’s 2022/23 Team of the Season – and he absolutely deserves the accolade.

Before we wax lyrical about Casemiro, I’m pretty gutted that Lisandro Martinez isn’t in the side. I feel certain that he would’ve been included if he didn’t get injured which is pretty sad. Both Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford can also feel hard done by.
As for Casemiro, he wasn’t lying when he said ‘tell them I’ll fix this’.
United have been so much better since he signed. They haven’t lost a league game at home from the moment the Brazilian arrived, despite losing their first home game to Brighton, in pretty dire fashion.
He provides an experience, winning mentality, midfield stability and a calmness. Yes, he can make some rash tackles at times, but those mistakes are far outweighed by his sheer greatness.
He can win the midfield battle single-handedly at times, against some of the best midfielders in the world. Despite the fact he’s getting up there in age, he’s still among the greatest in his position – and that will not change anytime soon.
What I love most about Casemiro is the fact that he is truly loving life here in Manchester. He’s a special player who wears his heart on his sleeve. The connection between player and fans was there from day one.
More than anything, I’m pleased he’s getting the credit he deserves.
