David de Gea has agreed a new contract with Man United, though the powers that be are yet to sign it off.
There is much talk going on about David de Gea right now. There can be no doubt that the Spaniard has been an incredible servant to Manchester United Football Club, though questions are starting to be asked about his stylistic fit.
In 2023, keepers are expected to contribute with their ball at feet. That’s probably De Gea’s biggest weakness, with there a real chance that the club look to move in a different direction this summer.
Well, contract talks have been ongoing for quite some time with De Gea, who’ll have to lower his wages significantly in order to remain at the club.
The Daily Mail have provided the latest update on De Gea, claiming that the United star ‘has agreed’ a new contract with United. However, the club’s hierarchy are yet to sign it off.
It’s claimed that once those terms agree agreed, Nottingham Forest will make their move to sign Englishman, Dean Henderson.
The 32-year-old De Gea will become a free agent on June 30th, though it does look as though he’ll be remaining at United – even if he isn’t guaranteed the starting spot beyond this season. My guess is that even despite the pay cut he’s taking, no other clubs will come close to what’s currently on offer from United.
It’s claimed that rather than spending big on a number one, Ten Hag would prefer to keep De Gea and only sanction around £15m of his budget to sign a back-up. You’d imagine that fee will be brought in by the sale of Henderson.
Whether or not this is the correct decision remains to be seen, though it does look as if De Gea will be kept around for a little while yet.
