Jadon Sancho is set for talks with Erik ten Hag, after their very public spat last week…
Manchester United hasn’t been the kindest to Erik ten Hag since the Dutchman made the move to Old Trafford. The ex-Ajax man has already had to deal with some major situations, all of which could have seriously derailed the train at the Theatre of Dreams.
Credit where it’s due, Ten Hag has handled each individual problem in an exemplary manner. The latest scenario that Ten Hag is trying to overcome is a disagreement with Jadon Sancho.
The gaffer publicly stated that Sancho didn’t feature against Arsenal due to poor training performances. Then, the Englishman would retort with a post on Twitter/X, claiming that he’d been turned into a scapegoat.
Since then, all had gone quiet on that front. Now, The Telegraph (subscription required) have provided an update. Without wanting to go too deep behind their paywall, it’s claimed that the United player is set for ‘showdown talks’ with Ten Hag today.
Ten Hag is a disciplinarian by nature and he felt ‘badly let down’ by Sancho’s comments. It’s also reported that United were willing to listen to offers for Sancho this summer, though no serious interest came their way.
The verdict
It’ll be interesting to see how this one plays out. Ten Hag doesn’t take any rubbish from his players and he will want to let the rest of the squad know that he is the boss. Sancho may well find it tough to get back into the starting line-up as a result – even despite Antony now being unavailable for the foreseeable future.
I’d suspect Sancho’s head will be on the chopping block by the time the January transfer window comes around, but whether sufficient interest will come his way is another matter entirely. I can’t imagine the top European sides will be keen, particularly as his attitude has come into question.
