Jadon Sancho simply has to find a way back at Man United, otherwise it’ll follow him for the rest of his career.
It feels like there’s big problem after big problem taking place at Manchester United right now. Every day must feel like Groundhog Day for Erik ten Hag – in terms of both on-field and off-field issues.
Credit to the gaffer. He’s managing it well. Though, I do worry he’ll get fed up if things do not change in the not-too-distant future.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that Ten Hag is currently dealing with a Jadon Sancho situation. He’d publicly criticise the player for his in-training struggles. The Englishman would retort with a social media post in which he claims he is a scapegoat. That post is still pinned atop his Twitter page.
The sad thing is that if Sancho had held off with his quick trigger finger, he’d now be first-choice on the right wing due to issues with Antony… Alas, he chose to fight his corner, which is obviously something he is well within his rights to do.
The problem? Ten Hag will see it as disrespect. The gaffer doesn’t like his authority questioned and the pair are said to have met today. The outcome of that meeting remains to be seen – though we can speculate.
In our opinion, the 23-year-old simply has no choice but to find a way back into the first-team fold at United. Be it by way of apology, working extra hard in training or something else, the winger has to make this work.
Why, I hear you ask?
Question marks about Sancho’s attitude have followed him throughout his whole career. From City youth level issues, to turning up late for training at Borussia Dortmund, it’s an issue the winger has had for many years.
There’s only so many blunders you can make before the truly elite clubs no longer want you. Think about it. The only way from United is down, as the top-tier sides will not want to take a gamble on someone who could bring down the morale of the dressing room.
Just look at the above video. The talent levels are insane. Sancho can truly do it all and nobody out there can deny his God-given ability. The boy is special.
Talent alone is not enough. You also need the work ethic, hunger and sheer desire. Perhaps that’s lacking right now for Sancho. At the highest level, that’s the difference.
It’s up to the player to change his ways. Be it something as simple as turning up for training and giving that 10%, or having a more positive outlook on his current situation, rather than sulking when not selected.
First and foremost, Sancho has to make it right with Ten Hag. I fully appreciate his need to back himself and defend himself, though it’s Ten Hag’s way or the highway. He is the manager, after all.
If the pair can get over their issues and put this behind them, this could be the clean slate that Sancho needs to succeed. I honestly believe he has no choice but to turn it around here in Manchester and start to prove the doubters wrong.
