Man United have eyes on free agent winger, Anwar El Ghazi.
Erik ten Hag must be seething at Manchester United right now. A poor summer transfer window, coupled with problem after problem, means the pressure is mounting.
Right-wing is suddenly becoming a serious issue. Jadon Sancho’s public outburst means he’s out of favour, while Antony is currently on a leave of absence as he deals with some off-field issues.
Facundo Pellistri is the only fit player who is a natural in that area of the field right now. Here at Old Trafford Faithful, we’d put the faith in the man from Uruguay and see what he’s made of. It looks like Erik ten Hag has other plans.
It’s the Daily Mail with an interesting story on the transfer front. They claim that United ‘are weighing up’ a move to sign a Dutchman on a free transfer; Anwar El Ghazi.
The name may be familiar. He was an Aston Villa player not too long ago, though he most recently played for PSV Eindhoven. The winger left the Dutch club by mutual consent last week. Hence, he’d be able to join United outside of the transfer window.
What’s interesting is that El Ghazi was at the United vs Arsenal game last week according to the report.
El Ghazi apparently has offers from Saudi Arabia, though a move to United may be too good to turn down if the chance is there.
The verdict
Honestly, this would be disappointing. El Ghazi isn’t United quality. There’s no ifs, buts or maybes. I’d much rather see what Pellistri has, or even look at moving Alejandro Garnacho to the right-hand side on a short-term basis.
If anything, I think this weakens United. It does show what a sorry state of affairs the club is in right now, though.
