A new Facundo Pellistri contract has shot to the top of the priority list for Man United.
Erik ten Hag suddenly has major issues at the right-wing position. Jadon Sancho is out of favour, while Antony has some problems off the field that he has to deal with.
Right now, Facundo Pellistri is the first-choice selection in that area of the field. Starts for the man from Uruguay is something the fans have been asking for since the pre-season. They now may be about to get their wish, albeit Ten Hag apparently has other ideas.
As a result, United are now trying to keep Pellistri happy while also protecting their asset. Fabrizio Romano has the latest on that front.
Apparently, a new contract for the 21-year-old is now ‘one of the priorities’ for United, after initial talks took place both in April and over the summer.
Pellistri is under contract until 2025, though talks over a new long-term deal are ‘set to advance soon’.

Whether this is a direct result of the aforementioned problems remains to be seen, though it does feel a little coincidental.
Suddenly, Pellistri has been thrust into the starting role, albeit in the short term. United want to get a deal done to save themselves some money. In the event that the winger comes in and plays well, those weekly wage demands will start to increase pretty quickly.
The good news is that Pellistri still has a couple of years remaining on his deal so United do have time on their side, though for the player, it’s about striking while the iron is hot. If he’s smart and backs himself, he’ll wait a few more months.
