Alejandro Garnacho may be made to wait for further Argentina appearances due to concerns about altitude.
Manchester United are currently on hiatus right now due to the international break. Erik ten Hag will be hoping to bolster his squad with some players returning from injury upon the return of domestic football.
In terms of South American players, it’s always tough to gauge fitness. Obviously, the long travelling distance, coupled with playing in simmering heat, can often make it difficult to gauge.
This time around, Alejandro Garnacho is coming under a different kind of selection issue; altitude.
It’s TyC Sports (via Sport Witness) with the information. They say that the United star may not feature for his country today due to concerns about the high altitude in Bolivia.
The Argentina squad have been pictured with oxygen being pumped into them due to the altitude in Bolivia, and their manager will be taking no risks with Garnacho. They want to see whether he can adjust to the issue and if not, they will not risk playing him in this game.
The premise of the story is about Garnacho’s international allegiance. Right now, he has two caps for Argentina and once that third appearance is made, he’ll no longer be able to switch country. That’s exactly why Argentina want him to play in this game, though they may be forced to wait.
I’d honestly be shocked if Garnacho U-turned on Argentina in favour of Spain at this point, but I guess you never know.
It is nice to hear that Argentina are approaching this cautiously, particularly as United have some huge games coming up and we’re certainly going to need the winger for those matches.
