Eric Bailly has continued an unfortunate injury trend, picking up another problem about a week after leaving Man United.
This summer was an important one for Manchester United. Among the main aims for Erik ten Hag was to clear some dead wood out of the squad, while freeing up some weekly wages and generating some extra funds as a byproduct.
The club did that somewhat, though probably not as much as they’d have wanted. One man who was moved on was Eric Bailly, though it took longer than anticipated.
Bailly would head to Besiktas after the European transfer window has slammed shut, with United releasing the centre-back without fee, purely to clear some wages off the books.
The Ivorian’s problem has always been injuries. His debut season at Old Trafford was actually excellent, though that feels like a long time ago now…
Well, Milliyet, via Sport Witness, state that the injury bug has struck Bailly again. The ex-red has picked up a fresh problem just a week after leaving the club, continuing his unfortunate career trend.
The report claims that Bailly ‘could not finish’ the first half of a friendly match due to a muscle problem. He reportedly headed to the sidelines shortly after suffering the blow, with Besiktas unwilling to risk further injury, subbing the centre-back off as a result.
Bailly will now undergo an MRI scan if the pain continues. If not, he will continue to train should the issue subside.
Unfortunately for Bailly, this just about sums up his career with the Red Devils. Sometimes, your body just cannot hold up. You can be the most talented player in the world, but if you cannot stay fit, then it will deny you the opportunity of competing at the highest level. It’s just the sad reality of elite sport.
Get well soon, Eric.
