Man United are considering signing a new centre-back next year, with Jean-Clair Todibo on the list of possible options.
Manchester United Football Club had a decent summer transfer window, with several holes within the squad plugged up by Erik ten Hag. However, the situation still needs to improve – particularly with injuries decimating some areas of the field.
The gaffer will continue to adjust and adapt things, though it is taking longer due to several fringe players being on massive weekly wages. As a result, it’s proving tough to move on from these guys. Harry Maguire is perhaps the best example of that, with the centre-back position now looking pretty dicey.
It’s no surprise then, to read that Fabrizio Romano believes United are considering investing in a new, ‘important’ defender in 2024, as internal discussions will start.
One name on the list is 23-year-old Jean-Clair Todibo, who was linked with an Old Trafford switch somewhat heavily over the summer. Edmond Tapsoba and Antonio Silva also get a mention.

It makes sense. Raphael Varane always picks up niggling injuries, while who knows how long he’ll continue his playing career as a result? Lisandro Martinez is now dealing with an ongoing foot problem that is becoming to be a longer term issue, while the aforementioned Maguire just isn’t good enough.
Todibo would allow United to get younger at a position, bringing in someone who can start week-in-week-out for the better part of a decade. Sure, he will not come cheaply, but it’d be an astute bit of business.
I’d love to see a defender signed as early as January, though with money tight, I’m fairly certain we’ll be made to wait until next summer.
