Erik ten Hag is pleased with Altay Bayindir, despite the fact he’s yet to make his Man United debut.
Last week felt like a good time to see what Altay Bayindir has to offer since making the move from Fenerbahce to Manchester United. In the end, the gaffer chose to stick with Andre Onana.
The man from Cameroon had little to do in that match, but hindsight is a wonderful thing. For us supporters, we’re all keen to see what the new man will bring to the table. Surely, a home game against Galatasaray, whom he will know well from his time over in Turkey, is the perfect moment?
Ahead of the game, Ten Hag remained tight-lipped on whether Bayindir will make his debut this evening, though the gaffer did confirm that the player has made a ‘very good impression’ in training.
It’s always good to hear how new signings are getting on. Bayindir is someone I know very little about, though the club clearly feel as though he’s heading in the right direction which is great news.
“You will see [if he plays tomorrow],” Ten Hag told media, including the MEN. “But we chose in the League Cup to play Andre [Onana] because he [Bayindir] has to adapt to the England standard. That’s why we preferred Andre to play.
“But also we have to progress Altay, that’s clear. He’s made a very good impression in training and he’s really developing, so we’re really happy with it. We are convinced we have the two right goalkeepers in the squad to do the job for us.”
It’s a tricky scenario for Ten Hag. I still feel like this is a great chance to see what Bayindir is made of, though there would be an awful lot of pressure on the young man’s shoulders as this is a must-win Champions League game for the Red Devils.
However, Bayindir will feel confident in his own abilities, fully believing he is up to the challenge of helping his side win what would be a massive three points.
I can see pros and cons to both sides of the debate, but the fact that Ten Hag didn’t rule it out leads me to believe that the man from Turkey may well be set to make his first start. As fans, it’s our job to support Bayindir all the way.
