Man United are looking to acquire Real Betis midfielder, Guido Rodriguez.
Manchester United’s midfield has been in an absolute mess so far this season. The Red Devils have had injuries in that area of the pitch, which obviously hasn’t helped, though the players just aren’t performing well enough.
Erik ten Hag will have hoped for more from the likes of Casemiro (pre-injury), while Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat haven’t really set the world alight so far. It makes sense, then, to see United being linked with a new name ahead of the January transfer window.
It’s Guido Rodriguez who has been mentioned as a possible option. Estadio Deportivo ran the story, with Sport Witness providing the translation. The article states that United have ‘returned with force’ for the 29-year-old midfielder signing.
According to the claim, the player is a ‘feasible’ option for the Reds ahead of the January transfer window.
It’s stated United have had Rodriguez on their radar for quite some time, though they’ve never made a solid move to bring in the Argentine. However, that may now change due to his contract situation. His deal is expected to expire next year, as his current club, Real Betis, could look to sell him in January so they get some sort of transfer fee back for him.
Understandably, the Betis hierarchy would prefer to keep ahold of Rodriguez, having made a ‘great effort’ to persuade him to stay. Though as things stand, they’re set to lose him for a fee ‘well below’ his current £70m release clause.
A defensive midfielder by trade, Rodriguez could absolutely help provide some solidity to an area of the field that definitely needs it. The question is, would the player want to move to a struggling United side mid-season? It’s hard to say.
