Here are our player ratings as Man United edge out Luton Town.
Andre Onana – Looked sharp from the outset. Made a great save to deny Morris in the first half. His distribution was good enough. 7/10
Diogo Dalot – Moved back to right-back and looked a little more comfortable. Played in one or two testing balls. 5/10
Harry Maguire – Started nervously but grew into the game as Luton started to sit back. He won some headers and defended well late. Even tried to move the ball progressively. 7/10
Victor Lindelof – United’s best player despite gifting Luton a massive chance. Scored the sole goal of the game and showed why he was picked over Varane. 8/10
Sergio Reguilon – Adds energy to the side but he does throw up a real mixed bag. Sometimes great, sometimes shocking. 5/10
Scott McTominay – Solid enough. Did his job in midfield. Did have a couple of chances to score. 5/10
Christian Eriksen – Started as the deepest midfielder on the day. Kept it nice and simple but succumbed to first-half injury. 5/10
Bruno Fernandes – Drifted in and out of the game. Typically mixed in possession. Gave the ball away cheaply at times. 5/10
Alejandro Garnacho – Did miss one golden opportunity but missed wildly. Was threatening at times. 5/10
Marcus Rashford – Missed a one-on-one. Did start on the right. Just doesn’t look fully focused at the moment. 4/10
Rasmus Hojlund – Worked hard as per usual. Played some nice passes forward, but was poor in front of goal. It just wasn’t his day. 5/10
Subs:
Mason Mount – Decent enough. Was involved in the goal.
Antony – Looked a little more confident than he has done recently.
Raphael Varane – Helped see the win out.
Anthony Martial – Didn’t really have time to get involved.
